New lab welcomed by Bungeni learners

A new state-of-the-art science laboratory was unveiled at Russel Bungeni High School in Bungeni village on Friday, 5 April. The laboratory is the result of a partnership between the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), Stellenbosch University, the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI), and the traditional authority, led by Hosi Given Bungeni.

Phophi leads the netball Baby Proteas

One of Vhembe’s own netball stars is continuing to impress on the national and international stage. Phophi Nematangari from Duthuni is currently captaining both the University of Pretoria’s (Tuks) first team and the South African Youth netball side (Baby Proteas).

Rialivhuwa and Sally are king and queen

Rialivhuwa Mulaudzi (17), a Grade 11 learner from Lwamondo High School, and Sally Marikhele, a Grade 10 student from Nngweni High School (15), were crowned king and queen of the Mr and Miss Vhembe District High Schools Pageant. The annual beauty pageant took place at the Tshavhalovhedzi Zion Apostolic Church on 6 April.

'Headman demolished my house'

A resident of Komati village near Vleifontein is very upset after his house was demolished, following a dispute about ownership. The structure was allegedly erected without the necessary permission obtained from the traditional leader.

Local boxers vow to win in Cape Town

Two former traditional musangwe bare-knuckle pugilists, Khodani “Cena” Nephalama and Ishmael Makhado, are set to fly to Cape Town to participate in the Insane Boxing Promotions Tournament. The event will take place at the Pride Fighting Academy on Hope Street in Cape Town next Saturday, 27 April.

Department shuts down Ziggy School

An unregistered school that has been operating since 2019 was closed by the Limpopo Department of Education last week. Parents had to scramble to find a new educational home for their children, with many feeling that the department had failed to protect the children by not acting against the owners of the school sooner.

Wheelchair basketball team aims high

The Vhembe 12 Eagles wheelchair basketball team will participate in the Provincial Wheelchair Basketball Tournament for the Disabled, which will be held at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, 20 April. They will be sending both male and female teams.

MMSEZ now also looking at nuclear power
