Mabasa makes comeback with his sixth gospel album

After a break of about two years, well-known local gospel artist Lawrence Mabasa has made a comeback with his sixth album.

He released his fifth album, Nthange Phanda, in October 2012.

Mabasa, or “Lolo” as he is widely known, is one of the local musicians whose music is growing with time. According to him, it became clear to everyone around him that he was a talented singer when he was still a junior primary and Sunday school child. In 2003, he felt that he was mature enough to try his luck at the recording studio and he recorded his debut album, Lead me to Calvary.

Although it was his debut album, its performance on the market was by far above Mabasa’s expectation. Two years down the line, Mabasa was at the recording studio again where he recorded his second album, Think of me. In 2007, he released his third album, Sape isizwe, and in 2009 he surprised the gospel fraternity with When peace like a river. Although When peace like a river is more than five years old now, it is still in demand.

The new release, Blessed Assurance, was recently recorded at his family's recording studio, MB Records, and released on 25 August. Just like all the previous albums, this one will also be self-marketed and -distributed. Asked how his previous album were affected by piracy, Mabasa said that piracy was one of the reasons why he was still a poor man, despite the fact that he has already released five albums. He revealed that he will be performing at various ceremonies, including weddings, memorial services and unveiling of tombstones, in the coming months in a bid to promote the album.

For bookings Mabasa can be phoned on 071 580 5383.
