As Tshivenda Hip Hop music continues to gain popularity on the national stage, the first ever annual hip hop bash was held in Tshiawelo, Soweto, earlier this month.
The event was filled with excitement as hundreds of fans turned out in numbers to enjoy the music throughout the night of October 4.
From as early as 19:00 until 04:00 the following morning, Mabutho’s pub was a hive of activity, with Tshivenda hip hop fans in high spirit whilst enjoying music from award-winning local rappers.
The Tshivenda Hip Hop music bash was organised by TooFab music and Original Venda hustlers. TooFab manager, Israel Mureri, said that their intention was to create a platform for Tshivenda rappers to gain popularity in the overcrowded musical industry. “Our intention is to liberate the dance floors by giving a platform to these talented but overlooked young artists and DJ's,” said Mureri.
Mureri feels that this will help to curb the gap between the prominent artists and the upcoming ones. “We are still having a lot of challenges as sponsors are not keen to support emerging promoters. We manage to pull out great events with the little money in our pockets,” he added.
Previously an event organised by Israel Mureri and Mulanga Mahala, famously known asTshidamba, was supported by various musicians and entertainment people. Mbosobeni, also known as 30-Cent in the local households, together with Muvhango actor Innocentia Makapila, better known as Rendani in the SABC 2 soapie, and Nema Nemahunguni fromVenrap online radio were the masters of ceremonies.
Among the performing artists were the prominent TooFab group which has been nominated in the upcoming BEM Limhop music awards in the best group category; Fizzy, who is nominated in the best single category; and SK, nominated in the best rookie category at the same awards. C-Jay, Master Freeze, Unistri group, Output, Prifix, Mapcity, Mizophyll andCash-Flow were also among the performing artists.
With the intention of promoting this Tshivenda flavoured music, TooFab has promised a series of events throughout the festive season. On the 20th of December this year another event which promotes local musicians will be hosted in the province.
