Jah Nne Musetsho releases debut Venda reggae album

His real name is Nne Musetsho Masevhe, but he is widely known by his stage name, Jah Nne Musetsho.

Born at Thengwe village outside Tshilamba 20 years ago, Jah Nne Musetsho realized that he had a musical talent. He impressed as a singer, as well as having the ability to master various musical instruments. At present he is a Grade 10 pupil at Todani Secondary School.

He bought a keyboard early last year and started to write his own songs. He also recruited his sisters, Dolly Masevhe and Tshinyalani Musetsho, to assist him as backing vocalists. In December last year he felt that his music had reached maturity and he approached Amblos Studio in Lufule to assist him in recording his first album.

The Venda reggae album was released in April and comprises ten songs. The CD Ri kandwa ri tshi vhonwa, is available at most of the local music outlets.

In his songs he addresses recent problems and observers are impressed that he included the recent xenophobic attacks that occurred in the country in one of his songs. The song, Lo hwala lo inga, is about people who hate foreigners.

When asked as to whether or not music was disturbing his studies, Jah Musetsho stated that both education and music were equally important to him; saying that being good in time management is extremely important for him. He proudly announced that initially the demand for the album was higher than what he could supply.
