Debut album for Madembe Choir

Although the choir of the Madembe Apostolic Church is nearly as old as the congregation itself, the choir only managed to release its debut album last month.

According to the leader, Ms Mercy Murudi, the choir was founded back in the early nineties. The choir is based in Lukalo village, but some of the members are from the adjacent village, Begwa.

Ms Murudi said that they were hessitant to record their music, until one of their members, Mr Eric Murudi, convinced them that their music was good enough to stand the test of time. Not only did Mr Murudi encourage the other choristers to go to the recording studio, but he also financed the whole project.

Mr Murudi is a teacher at Marude Secondary School. In September last year the group went to the Ishy Malala recording studio at Tshaulu village. Thabelo Volume One consists of 12 praise-and-worship songs and will be a welcome gift for Christians of all age groups.

The album opens with the title track, Thabelo, meaning 'prayer'. The third song, Zwa shangoni, is already extremely popular and is a reminder of the scripture that says that everything one sees in this world shall pass, with the exception of the Word of God. Some of the songs that have the potential to make the album an instant hit with fans includeDzithendo, Messiah and Tshifhinga.

According to Ms Murudi, the album is only available on CD and it is already a hit at music outlets. For bookings of live performances, Ms Murudi can be phoned on 079 864 7188.
