Nndanduleni Muavhi, known as Knova in music circles, recently released his debut album, Athina Fulufhelo, and has become an inspiration to all youngsters who aspire to journey into the music industry.

He is one of the rare young musicians who are working hard to dispel the widespread notion that most artists are not educated.

Muavhi (26) of Muledane takes issues of education seriously and is busy studying towards a master’s degree at the University of Limpopo. “I have been in the industry for some time and have many singles to my credit, but I know the importance of education. Many of my colleagues in the industry try to take shortcuts to fame while ignoring their studies.”

He added that some lost focus with their studies and ended up failing and sometimes even failed to make it in the music industry. “I am now imploring those who would like to join this industry to be considerate of the significance of education and the fruits that it bears,” he said.

“If you are not educated, you will end up signing things that will not benefit you as an artist,”

He further indicated that education was not only important for career reasons, but it also helped in the contractual issues of musicians. “If you are not educated, you will end up signing things that will not benefit you as an artist,” he said.

Musically, Knova Muavhi was inspired by a wide spectrum of musicians of different genres, local and international. His first record was released to the public in 2008. He began to rise to fame rapidly through the ranks of Venrap’s (Tshivenda rap) elite league and it came as no surprise as his unique lyricism and wordplay set him above average.

In December 2015, he self-released a compilation of 22 songs on cassette and received high praise and honour from everyone who got the chance to listen to the 22 full tracks.

His music is not limited to the youth only, as it stretches and accommodates elderly people too. After so many single releases, no argument can be posed negating the impact that he has made on Venrap as genre and on all listeners who enjoy good music.
