Local rugby teams make us proud

Last week’s Zoutpansberger featured two remarkable achievements, “Rugbymanne wil Saterdag geskiedenis maak” and “Trotse triomf vir Triegies se eerstes”, and both these teams and their coaching and management staff deserve huge congratulations!

As much as the players do it for little more than the love of the game and the camaraderie that comes with a team-sport experience, and of course a victory, one has to give due respect and credit to the ‘team behind the team’ who coach and manage on a voluntary basis only, and it’s on this note that I’d like to single out Kevin Gilbert and Gideon van Zyl for the town’s first team, and also Phillip Potgieter and Koos Alberts for Triegies’ first team.

Congratulations, guys, and I know I speak on behalf of all your supporters. Both your teams have had huge successes this year. With Phillip and Koos’s U/13 team winning their final and Kevin and Gideon’s Louis Trichardt team getting to their final and coming a close second to formidable opponents.

One needs to remember that these four rugby enthusiasts all have family, business, and no doubt many other personal commitments to attend to and maintain throughout the weeks, and the above-mentioned pinnacles of success can only be reached through uncompromising dedication to their teams and their communities.

I take my hat off to you four, you make our small town proud, and perhaps there is more depth in the Blue Bull coaching camp than what Pretoria is aware of…
