Mentally ill patient disappears at hospital

Police in Thohoyandou have launched a manhunt for a mentally ill patient who disappeared from the Tshilidzini Hospital.

The police spokesperson in Thohoyandou, Major Mashudu Malelo, said Rofhiwa Rathanya (32), who comes from Tshimbupfe-Dindela outside Thohoyandou, mysteriously disappeared from the Tshilidzini Hospital on 28 April. He was being accompanied by his younger brother, Mr Shumani Rathanya, who was in the process of having him admitted to the hospital.

“Since his disappearance, we have searched everywhere in our area, but to no avail. We are also being assisted by neighbouring communities,” said the younger brother, Shumani.

According to Major Malelo, Rathanya was wearing brown trousers, brown sandals and a black T-shirt when he disappeared.
