Construction is finally underway on the Magau main road.

Finally a proper road for Magau residents

The residents of Magau village in the Sinthumule area have welcomed the construction of the main road from Madombidzha village to Magau village.

The motorists and residents had used a damaged gravel road ful of potholes for many years. The road was always covered in dark, thick dust, so that motorists could hardly see each other when they drove on the road.

The local headman, Vho-Daniel Masindi, said that they welcomed the construction of the road and added that it was an indication that the municipality would still render more services to the village. “We know very well that it had taken the municipality very long to finally answer us and come to start working on this road,” he said. “But now we appreciate the good work which the contractor is doing. We see workers every day and they are working at a satisfactory pace.”

Masindi said that there were instances where some wayward individuals pulled out the poles along the road work which the workers are doing. “We made a public notice and warned all those who were involved in that kind of mischief that they must stop or else perpetrators would be dealt with accordingly,” he said. “They had stopped pulling out the poles – and it's good that they listened to us. We need progress in our villages, and all those who are anti-progress have no room in this village!”

Another Magau resident and motorist, Norman Ramapala, had used the old potholed road for about 20 years. He said the bad state of the road had damaged many cars and worn out the tyres of many cars.

“I started using this road before it even had a bridge many years ago,” he said. “Some people could not go to town to work because the road was not good, while others would arrive at work very late as cars had to move very slow for fear of damaging their wheels in the potholes.”

Ramapala said that to finally have a proper main road was a true victory for motorists and residents of Magau village. Even pupils had a hard time using this road because the people who ferried them to and from school always complained about bad road.

The spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality, Louis Bobodi, said that the project was handed over in April this year. The completion date had been set for March next year.
