Account committee investigates mayor

The Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) of the Mutale municipality is investigating allegations by the Democratic Alliance (DA) that the mayor, Cllr Sarah Rammbuda, recently used a municipal vehicle to attend an ANC conference.

DA caucus leader Cllr Joseph Mariba said if Mayor Rammbuda was found guilty, she should resign from her office or pay back the money used on the trip.

According to a statement from Mariba, it is alleged that Rammbuda used the council vehicle and also a municipal driver to transport her to the ANC Women’s League Conference that was held earlier this month at Irene near Pretoria. He said that Rammbuda was aware that no one is allowed to use state resources for personal events.

An official at the MPAC, Mr Sampson Madumi, confirmed that they had received a letter from the DA, requesting an urgent investigation into the matter. “We requested Cllr Rammbuda to respond to the allegations after we received the letter from DA and we are still investigating the matter,” said Madumi.

Rammbuda has denied all claims made by Mariba and said that she knew nothing about the matter.
