VenRap artist recovers after vehicle accident

A young VenRap artist, Isaac “Ramzeey” Ramalata, is still recovering from his injuries and shock after he was involved in a car accident, which left his friend dead, at Makonde last Monday.

Speaking from his place of convalescence, he told Limpopo Mirror that he had just driven out of a filling station and was heading home, when another car came racing towards him from the front in his lane. It was at around 22:00.

“On my left there was a steep valley, and there was nowhere else to go,” he said. “I was afraid and knew that I had met my death. But somehow I swerved to the right the moment the on-coming car was about to hit me head-on. I saw that I had hit the concrete wall fencing.”

The next thing he knew was when Ramzeey woke up in hospital. The images of the accident came tumbling into his mind. He was told the sad news that his friend, Tondani Madida, known as Mavilitha, had unfortunately died in the accident.

“Another friend, Elekanyani Nwovhe, had sustained critical injuries. I realised that I too had some injuries, especially on my leg.”

His voice started to sound lower and his spirits were down as he spoke. “My physical pain cannot be compared to the pain that I feel in my soul,” he said. “I had lost a friend; I loved Mavilitha. I am spiritually severed.”

Immediately after the news about Ramzeey's involvement in the accident and Mavilitha's tragic death started to spread through the district, some angry people started swearing at and calling Ramzeey names on social media. They were blaming him for Mavilitha's death and the injuries which Elekanyani had sustained.

However, there were other fans who swore back at those who called Ramzeey names, saying that accidents were happening everyday.

Ramzeey's manager, Rita Dee, was not immune from the expletives too. “In times like these, people tend to lose it and say things that should not be said,” Rita Dee said. “Even though they call you names, you don't have to think hard or take in everything they say or else you will hate people for nothing.”

Ramzeey has since postponed the release of his new album. “I need to heal first,” he said.

This young singer had gained musical popularity by bringing a unique feel to local rap sounds some three years ago and released his much-awaited debut album, Muraga. The album boasts 17 tracks, such as O shanduka, Murathu, Riya fana, Fhulufhelo, and Rido swika.
