Unrest at Univen campus

Students and staff of the University of Venda (Univen) were left stranded this morning when a group of rowdy students barricaded the entrance road to the university.

Protesting students used rubble to block the road, and police had their hands full trying to control them.

The disgruntled group is contesting the recent SRC elections, which were won by the EFF Student Command by a very small margin. Allegations of bribery and rigging have since erupted. The allegations are rife that one of the contesting organisations, that lost the elections, have teamed up with some members of the university’s management to ensure that the EFF does not take up control of the campus.

After some talks between the protesters and Univen management the entrance gates were opened.
