The triumphant players of Ajax FC display their winning trophy and cheque for R15 000.
Zamenkomste Ajax FC were crowned as champions of the Thabo Mongalo Foundation Soccer Challenge after they beat Maweja FC 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out at the Makhado municipal show grounds.
The acting executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Mr Mafemani Mahani, praised the sponsors and the association for organising the tournament. He said sport brought people together, irrespective of their religious, cultural and political backgrounds.
He added that the players had trained hard in order to excel at their activities and said several local players had already performed in higher leagues and even on the international stage.
Zamenkomste Ajax received R15 000, a trophy, soccer kit and gold medals. Maweja FC collected R10 000, a soccer kit and silver medals, while Tshikota Young Lions went home with R5 000, a soccer kit and bronze medals.
Mr Itani Mamafha, coach of Ajax, was named coach of tournament, Musa Mazibuko the referee of the tournament, Khumbudzo Muvhango of Maweja FC the player of tournament, while Matha Ratshilaya of Tshikota Young Lions was presented with a trophy as the top goal scorer.

Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality.
