More points for Leopards

Black Leopards registered their fourth successive victory by beating Witbank Spurs 2-1 in their National First Division League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.

As if they were going to bury Spurs alive, Leopards opened their accounts four minutes into the game. Their dribbling wizard, Leonard Ntshangase, received a neat pass from Marks Munyai and beat the keeper with a ground cutter.

The visitors from the coal city lost cohesion in the middle of the park soon afterwards, butLidoda Duvha failed to capitalize. Realizing that their scoring chances were slim, Black Leopards introduced their sharpshooter, Ruggert Nyundu, and sacrificed Ndamulelo Mungadi when the game was only 14 minutes old.

Vusi Mthimkhulu of Spurs was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He obstructed Thivhavhudzi Ndou in the 24th minute. Spurs lost their defender, Victor Ngunyule, through injury four minutes into the second half. He was replaced with Gift Modika.

Leopards effected another change to their starting lineup by replacing their left back, Jabulani Ndebele, with Shimi Radebe. Rabebe formed a deadly combination with Dunga Munganga and Thivhavhudzi Ndou at the defence. Leopards increased the margin in the 57th minute. Ruggert Nyundu beat the keeper with a ground cutter after forcing his way through the defence.

The keeper of Black Leopards, Avhashoni Tshinuna, was reprimanded with a card for wasting time six minutes later and Leopards started to play defensive football in an attempt to protect their lead. They were severely punished when the men from eMalahleni reduced one through Mogau Tshehla. He finished off a rebound after a scramble within the box.

Ruggert Nyundu was also warned with a card for ignoring the referee’s whistle late in the game.
