Sparks to fly during professional boxing tournament

Hlanganisa Sports Promotions,  in conjunction with the Greater Giyani Municipality will stage a professional boxing tournament at the Giyani Community Hall tomorrow evening. The main bout will feature local boys Oscar Chauke and Prince Ndlovu. Chauke is the current South African featherweight champion and he will be defending the title.

Ndlovu told Limpopo Mirror that he was more than ready for the big day. He sent a chilling warning to Chauke, saying his days as a champion were numbered. When responding, Chauke stated that he regarded Ndlovu as a “barking, toothless dog”. According to him, nothing will stop him from retaining the title.

Ndlovu and Chauke are both from Malamulele.

In the other bouts for the evening, two other local boys, Pfariso Neluvhalani and Godfrey Nemukongwe, will exchange blows in a featherweight division bout over four rounds. It will be followed by an international featherweight division bout between the former South African champion, Sydney Maluleke, and Tawanda Chigwiza from Harare, Zimbabwe, over eight rounds. Chigwiza is a Zimbabwean champion.

In the only female bout of the night, Bukiwe Nonina from the local stable will test her strength against Diana Makumbe in their bantamweight division fight over eight rounds. Makumbe hails from Harare, Zimbabwe.

In the main supporting bout, the Limpopo super-middleweight champion, Benson Hobyane, from Malamulele, and Johannes Peterson from Gauteng will meet over eight rounds.

The entrance fee will be R30 (juveniles), R50 (adults) and R100 for the ringside seats. The event will start at 19:00.
