Tshaulu Powerlines successfully defended their Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge title at the Tshifudi Stadium last Saturday. They beat Begwa United FC 3-1 in the final.

Powerlines were presented with a floating trophy, R10 000, two soccer kits and two soccer balls during the ceremony, which was held at the stadium shortly after the final. Begwa United received R1 000, two soccer kits and two soccer balls.

A cash prize of R500, two soccer kits and two soccer balls were presented to the third-placed side, Lukalo Hotspurs.  Lukalo Hotspurs beat Munangwe United Brothers 3-0 in their losers’ final match at the same venue earlier that day.

All teams taking part in the tournament were each given a consolation prize of two soccer balls and a soccer kit. Eight teams, Tshaulu Powerlines, Begwa United FC, Munangwe United Brothers, Lukalo Hotspurs, TMT Junior Birds, Dimani Young Masters, Mubvumoni XI Arrows and New Look FC, took part in the competition.

The coach of Tshaulu Powerlines, Mr Nkhetheni Bohwana, was named the best coach of the tournament. Powerlines’ killer striker, Alson Baloyi, was nominated the man of the final, and he shared the top goal scorer’s award with Norman Mbedzi of Begwa. Mbedzi and Baloyi both scored four goals apiece.

During the ceremony the sponsor, Mr Boy Nemakonde, expressed his appreciation for the manner in which both the players and the officials of the clubs had behaved throughout the tournament. He revealed that he will continue to sponsor the tournament in the coming years, saying the sponsorship would increase with time.
