“Power” destroys Begwa

Alson “Power” Baloyi was a marvel to watch when his team, Tshaulu Powerline, crushed Begwa United FC 3-1 in the final of the Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge at the Tshifudi Stadium on Saturday.

Baloyi scored a hat trick. He was everywhere, collecting balls from the middle of the park while playing as a striker at the same time. He was in the thick of things in the 11th minute. He received a neat pass from his captain, Khuliso Libago, and beat the keeper with a volley.

Beron Musimeki of Begwa ran out of steam within the first 20 minutes of the game. He was replaced with Rudzani Seanego in the 18th minute. Begwa realized that it was not their day when their fast forward, Khuliso Netshikwati, missed a fortune. Netshikwati went loose from the left corner in the 24th minute and suffered the pain of watching his half volley going astray.

The wheel of fortune turned against Begwa seven minutes before the end of the first half. Rofhiwa Nekhavhambe dribbled past two defenders in a row and dished out a square pass to Baloyi, who was in the perfect scoring position. Although he was standing next to the goal line, Baloyi did not leave anything to chance. Instead, he blasted in a rocket from close range to bring the half-time score to 2-0.

Begwa came back strongly in the last half. They pulled one back in the 57th minute. Khethekanyo Nemudzivhadi headed home, following a corner kick that was taken by Mulele Mudau.

Talifhani Netshivhungululu of Begwa was warned with a card for faking injury in the 69th minute. Begwa introduced Norman Mbedzi for Khuliso Netshikwati two minutes later. Begwa lost hope after Powerline increased the margin in the 74th minute. Power Baloyi was on target once again after a scramble within the box.
