Rangers overpower African Stars 5-0

Vhutalu Mountain Rangers gave Khubvi African Stars a free soccer lesson when they crushed them 5-0 in their Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge match at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Saturday.

African Stars played 80 minutes of the game with their hands tied behind their backs. Their midfielder, Phumudzo Netsuni, was given his marching orders in the 10th minute. Netsuni was warned with a card in the 4th minute for a late tackle on Tshililo Manari. As if that was not enough, Netsuni committed a similar infringement six minutes afterwards. This time around it was Livhuwani Nengome who fell victim.

African Stars looked hopeless after the incident. Rangers capitalized on the setback and scored two goals in quick succession.

Mountain Rangers opened their account in the 17th minute. Tshililo Manari was on target with a close-range volley. It took Mountain Rangers only three minutes to score their second goal. Mpho Singo headed home, following a brilliant square pass from Khuliso Netshidzivhe.

African Stars came back to the game after the goal, but it was only for a few moments.

Rangers increased the margin nine minutes before the break. Carlson Sidiri forced his way through the defence of Stars and unleashed a ground cutter from the 18-meter area to bring the half-time score to 3-0. Mountain Rangers strengthened their striking force by introducing Joshua Gandamipfa for Khuliso Netshidzivhe in the 57th minute.

Pressure continued to mount on the defence of African Stars. It was in the 78th minute when Mountain Rangers scored their fourth goal. Tshilisanani Phalanndwa was on target with a half volley, following a neat pass from Vincent Thagwana. Livhuwani Nengome dribbled past the keeper to score the Rangers’ fifth goal later in the game.
