Tshakuma teams to play in Amos Games

 

This weekend marks the start of the annual Amos Shield Soccer Tournament. The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony at the Tshiemuemu High School Hall on Tuesday evening.

During the ceremony, a representative from the sponsors, Mr Brian Mavhungu, revealed that this year’s sponsorship has increased to R70 000. Five teams will take part in the open category while only four will battle it out for the championship in the U/13 category. The first four matches will be played in a round-robin format. The top two teams will meet in the final to determine the champion.

The five open category teams which are gearing up for the tournament are: Tshakhuma Na Ndilani, Maweja Takers, Tshakhuma RO United, FC KK and Peace Lovers. The U/13 teams are Tshakhuma Na Ndilani Academy, Shooting Stars, Peace Lovers and Young Tigers. The opening matches will be played at the Tshisimani grounds tomorrow, while Sunday's matches will be staged at the Malaria grounds.

Tshakhuma Na Ndilani will take on Maweja Takers at 12:30. FC KK and Tshakhuma RO United will lock horns at 15:00. Peace Lovers and Tshakhuma Na Ndilani will open proceedings on Sunday. Maweja Takers will meet FC KK later in the afternoon.

The final will be played on Saturday, September 12, at a venue still to be announced. The champions will take home R10 000, a floating trophy, gold medals and a soccer kit. The runners-up will be presented with R6 000, silver medals and soccer kit, while the third-placed side will be given R3 500 and bronze medals. A cash prize of R2 000 is awaiting the team that will finish in the fourth spot, while the last team will receive a soccer ball.

The U13 champions will become R3 500 richer apart from the soccer kit, floating trophy and gold medals which they will also take home. The second-placed side will be presented with R2 500, soccer kit and silver medals, while the team finishing in third place will go home with R1 500.

Individual awards will be presented to the top goal scorer, player of the tournament, most disciplined player, goalkeeper of the tournament, coach of the tournament and the player who will score the most awesome goal in the tournament. FC KK are the defending champions.
