Gogo Selina steers her team to victory

Selina “Tico Tico” Netshitungulu of the Matsila elderly team steered her team to victory when they beat the Matanda elderly 1-0 during the Phalaphala FM soccer tournament at the Rabali stadium on Saturday.

Matanda took the game to their opponents in the first 20 minutes. It was their speedy forward, Denga Magodi, who let them down by shooting aimlessly at the goal finish. Matsila rectified their mistakes soon afterwards. Their midfielder-cum-striker, Sophy Thenga, beat the offside trap and faced the stranded keeper, Johana Khorombi, only to lose possession at the goal finish.

The referee flashed the first yellow card in the 30th minute. Maria Mudau of Matsila obstructed Maria Thasana and the referee was lenient enough to let her go with yellow. No goals were scored in the first half.

In the second half, Matsila were all over their opponents and attacked from all angles. Their goal came in the 80th minute. Selina Netshitungulu beat the keeper, Elsie Mamegwa, after dribbling past two defenders in a row. Matanda then tried everything within their reach in search of the equaliser, but it was not their day.
