Try Again the Safari champs

 

Makuya Try Again were crowned the Makuya Safari Soccer Tournament Champions two weeks ago. They beat Sanari Crossbreed 1-0 in the final at the Makuya Try Again grounds.

Try Again were presented with a cash prize of R2 000, soccer kit, a floating trophy and soccer ball during a ceremony shortly after the final. Crossbreed received R1 500, soccer kit and a soccer ball, while the third-placed Mutshikilini Junior Aces received R1 000 and soccer kit. Gondeni Brave Lions, who lost 3-4 in the losers’ final against Junior Aces, took home R500 and a soccer kit.

All 10 teams that took part in the tournament were presented with a soccer kit.They are: Bennde Mutale FC, Sanari Crossbreed, Musunda FC, Tshambuka FC, Makuya Try Again, Gondeni Brave Lions, Mutshikilini Junior Aces, Maholoni Stone Breakers, Mahagala Young Stars and Phalathonga FC. The tournament was sponsored by Makuya Safaris to the tune of R60 000.

A representative from the sponsors, Mr Prince Phandavhudzi, indicated that the decision to sponsor a soccer tournament was reached after they realized that sports, and football in particular, was a uniting factor among the communities. A local traditional leader, Thovhele Vho-Ronald Makuya, said that the tournament would be an annual event. According to him, the tournament will grow with time in terms of the participating teams and sponsorship.

The former CEO of the PSL, Mr Andrew Dipela, was among the guests who attended the event.
