No match for Joe Maweja

Joe Maweja got three solid points and two goals without kicking a ball last weekend.

They were supposed to play against Mighty FC in their ABC Motsepe League match at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Saturday. Maweja were at the venue about an hour before the scheduled 15:00 kickoff time. They started with their warm-up training in the hope that Mighty FC would arrive at any time, but that was not to be.

Maweja, together with the match officials, were on the pitch, ready for action at about 14:50. The 15:00 scheduled kick-off time came, but Mighty FC were nowhere to be seen. That prompted the referee to blow the final whistle and thus declare a walkover for Maweja. Maweja were awarded three points and two goals, following the walkover.

The victory pushed them from the 8th to the 7th spot on the log, with 26 points accumulated from 16 outings. The general manager of Maweja, Mr Mukondi “Liweja” Nemavhulani, said they were not happy with the three points and two goals they were awarded. He stated that they would have beaten Mighty by a margin bigger than 5-0, had they honoured the fixture.

According to him the two goals they were awarded as a result of the walkover worked against them as some of the teams they were competing with on the log managed to score more than three goals last weekend.

The match between Giyani Hotspurs and The Dolphins at the Giyani Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw. Great North FC crushed Bilika All Stars 3-0 at the Seshego Stadium.

Polokwane Academy registered a 3-0 victory over Mosesetjane All Stars and Lephalale Young Killers beat A1 Terrors 3-1 in Polokwane. Boyne Young Tigers shared the spoils with Bellevue Winners Park, with whom they played to a 1-1 draw.
