Rodney Ramagalela joins Polokwane City

As part of their many ways to solve the team’s scoring problems, Polokwane City have acquired the services of a vastly experienced striker, Azwitamisi Rodney Ramagalela.

Ramagalela’s move to City brings to an end the speculation that the 27-year old sharpshooter was on his way to the Free State side, Bloemfontein Celtic. According to Ramagalela himself, his two-year contract with City started on 1 July and will expire on 30 June 2018.

Ramagalela’s football career started in 2006 when he was playing for the SAB side, Mamvuka Disco Five. He later moved to the then Vodacom Promotional League side, Phungo All Stars.

At that stage, Phungo All Stars were serving as nursery for Black Leopards. He was promoted to play for Leopards in 2009. When Black Leopards were relegated to the National First Division in 2013, Ramagalela, together with Tiyani Mabunda, moved to Mamelodi Sundowns in their search for greener pastures.

His stay with Sundowns was characterized by injuries and as such he could not live up to the fans’ expectations as a scoring machine. Realizing that the Mamvuka-born striker was warming the bench most of his the time, Sundowns decided to loan him to Lamontville Golden Arrows at the beginning of last season.

His loan with Golden Arrows came to an end at the end of last month, the same time that his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns expired. When asked how he sees his future with Polokwane City, Ramagalela said that his work as a striker was to score goals and “that is exactly what I will be doing during my two-year stay at City.”
