Makhavhini win Thovhele tournament

The Makavhini team won the Thovhele Manenzhe soccer tournament at the Liverpool grounds at Ha-Manenzhe last Sunday. They beat Bale 4-3 after a penalty shoot-out.

The tournament involved six teams from Thovhele Alone Takalani Manenzhe's villages of Ha-Manenzhe, Bale, Lwathudwa, Mapakoni, Matshena and Tshikhudiniand  and was played on Saturday and Sunday. The tournament was organized in honour of former President Nelson Mandela.

Makavhini received R3 000, Bale R2 000 and Manenzhe and Matshena, who finished in third and fourth place respectively, received R850 each. Mapakoni (5th) and Tshikhudini (6th) received R500 each. Thovhele Manenzhe said he decided to organize the soccer tournament in order to give players an opportunity to showcase their God-given talent. “In response to the call to honour Madiba, we felt that it would be fitting to organize this tournament, so that our children can play against each other while entertaining the spectators.”

Manenzhe is the area that Ndivhuwo Ravhuhali, who plays for Baroka FC, hails from. Ravhuhali comes from Lwathudwa, one of the villages under Thovhele Manenzhe.

On 16 June, Thovhele Manenzhe also handed school shoes to 14 disadvantaged pupils from his area.

Manenzhe added that he hoped to organize a similar tournament next year, provided that he could find a sponsor.
