Benny’s players pay respect to traditional leader

After they had won the Danone U/12 National Cup last month, the players and management of Benny’s Care Sport Academy paid a visit to senior traditional leader Thovhele Vho- Rudzani Sinthumule at his kraal in Tshiozwi last Friday.

They took with them the trophy they had won as national winners.

Benny’s will jetted off  to France to represent South Africa in the world finals in October.

Thovhele Vho-Rudzani Sinthumule  told the team that he was proud that a team from his area had managed to beat many schools with better facilities than Benny’s. “Coach Mbishi Mokwena has taken it upon himself to take these players and mould them into future Bafana Bafana players. His determination and passion for soccer development are outstanding,” Sinthumule said.

He added that the players must show the same attitude and determination at the world finals that they had during the national finals. He pointed out that most of the players came from disadvantaged homes and did not have much to look forward to. Some of their parents are unemployed and battle to meet their living expenses.

“I thank Danone for this amazing opportunity that they are offering these players. They would never have gotten the chance to get onto an aeroplane and cross many oceans to play soccer,” he added. He warned the players, however, to focus on their own game and not worry about how the other countries will play.

“Remember that such opportunities don’t come along all the time, so you should embrace every moment,” he told them. “Relax and enjoy Paris, teach the players from the other countries about your culture and where you come from,” was his message to them. “You must also learn about other countries, so when you come back, you can tell the whole of the country what it was like in France.”

Benny’s Care Sports Academy now has 346 pupils from Grade 1 to 12 and follows the curriculum of the Department of Education. It boasted a 99% matric pass rate in 2015. The school grows its own vegetables, which ensures the boys are fed three balanced meals a day.
