Huge payday for Tshifudi Phandulauvhalo in Ramzas

Edward Mavhasa and Zwonaka Netshitungulu became instant heroes by scoring the goals that helped their team, Tshifudi Phandulaluvalo FC, to win the annual Ramzas Knock-out Tournament that was held at the Khubvi grounds during the festive season.

The team’s 2-1 victory over Lamvi Ficus FC guaranteed them a cash prize of R25 000, a soccer kit, a floating trophy and a soccer ball.

Mavhasa beat the highly skilled Ficus FC goalkeeper, Ndikandafhi Masikhwa, in the 65th minute while Netshitungulu added another goal in the 80th minute. Ficus’s goal was scored by Khamusi Netshisaulu in the 82nd minute. Despite their defeat, Ficus FC went home with R15 000, a soccer kit and a ball.

Position three went to Matangari Rising Stars, who received a cash prize of R5 000, while Khubvi Dangerous Darkies took position four and went home with R3 500.

Phandulaluvalo’s journey to victory in the tournament started when they beat Jackliffy FC 7-6 at the Dzimauli Tshakhumba ground. They then went on to beat Mulodi Freedom Birds 4-3 at Makonde, followed by their 3-1 victory over Matangari Rising Stars at the Khubvi grounds.

The teams’ coach, Rofhiwa Netshivhambe, said he was quite sure that his team was going to take the trophy home. “The boys were highly prepared and dedicated. The preparations were superb and we concentrated in all our games. The boys were complaining about tough training sessions, but they can now testify that there is no gain without pain.”

During the prize-giving ceremony shortly after the finals, the main sponsor, Mr Lucky Ramano, said the R200 000 he put aside to organize the games was an investment into the local community.  “All 16 teams that took part in the competition went home with something. We will continue to build this community in order to keep the youth off the streets during the holidays. Empowering local teams assists to build a healthy nation while at the same time keeping the youth off the streets. Furthermore, this tournament is helping to unearth young talent who will end up playing professionally in future.”

Ramano thanked the co-sponsors, Mukula Black Lion Tyres and Malavuwe Marshal Resort, for contributing financially towards the success of the tournament. He also thanked the teams, organizing committee and members of the community for the support throughout the four years of the tournament.
