Another defeat for Maweja

Things are quickly going from bad to worse in the camp of the Vhembe-based ABC Motsepe League side, Joe Maweja. They continued to donate league points to their opponents last weekend.

They lost 0-2 to the rookies, Molemole Academy, at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Saturday. Although their striker, Mashudu Mukhari, was evidently out of form, Maweja’s technical staff kept him on the field of play until proceedings for the first half came to an end.

Mukhari was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He obstructed the Molemole keeper, Harry Nkoana, in the 18th minute and the referee was quick to flash yellow.  The home side created numerous scoring chances in the first half, but their strikers were unlucky. They threatened to score in the 26th minute when Mukhari received a neat pass from Khongotela Mahlaule.

Mukhari shot far wide from close range. The visitors’ keeper, Harry Nkoana, found himself on the wrong side of the football laws towards the end of the first half. His sin was protesting against the referee’s decision. No goal was scored in the first half.

Molemole approached the second half with more self-confidence. They came close to scoring in the 55th minute. Freddy Maake could not believe his eyes when he shot wide from inside the box. At that stage, the keeper of Maweja was already beaten. Molemole took the lead in the 69th minute. Freddy Maake rectified his mistakes and hooked in a loose ball after a scramble within the box.

Maweja effected two changes to their starting line-up later in the game. The move was not good enough to stop Molemole from scoring their second goal. It was in the 78th minute when the newcomers increased the margin. Joseph Lekganyane blasted in a rocket, following a neat pass from Rodney Kgare. Maweja took the game to their opponents in the last 10 minutes, but it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of Molemole.
