Mbilwi celebrates first 25 years

The school of excellence was established in 1979. The original idea was that it would cater for Std 8 to 10, specialising in science, maths and natural science. During the time of establishing the school, it was decided to name the school named Mbilwi, which means heart, due to the dedicated and devoted learners and teachers.

Due to the high quality of education at the school, it was later extended to cater for Std 6 to 10.

Mbilwi is is always in the top bracket in terms of matric results. The school also produced numerous doctors, scientists, engineers and managers from different institutions and companies.

There is no more space for trophies and certificates around the principal’s office, thanks to the high number of achievers during the past years. The principal, Mr Nnditsheni Ramugondo, said that there are no hidden formulas for remarkable achievements. There are no magic bullets or secret recipes that are only accessible to staff and learners. “All of this came through devotion, discipline and dedication.”

The MEC for Education in the Limpopo, Mrs Joyce Mashamba, said that Mbilwi is putting Limpopo on the map through good results every year out of 4000 schools.

The school is also representing South Africa, because some of the learners have been visiting overseas to compete with other countries.

She also pleaded with other schools within Limpopo to follow the footsteps of Mbilwi, as a role model in Limpopo “We as the Department of Education we are touched by the school. The department will build 12 classrooms at Mbilwi in 2004/5. By adding those classrooms, the department is trying to solve the classroom shortage in our province,” said a jubilant Mashamba.
