Mahunguwi United City will not take part in the next round of the PIB MTG and Black Leopards KO Competition. They were booted out by Khubvi Peace Makers, who narrowly beat them 1-0 at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Saturday.
Reuben Sikhipha of United City could not live up to his reputation as a playmaker as he was tightly marked. City blundered by continuing to distribute pre-cooked passes to Sikhipha, despite the fact that it was evident from the onset that he was harmless.
United City soon realised that their midfield was shaky and they introduced Thiitelwi Rembuluwani for Mashudu Mphaya, who was looking weary from the start. At that stage, the game was 10 minutes old. Moses Malala of Peace Makers was booked for a late tackle on Ndamulelo Negota in the 24th minute.
The game became lukewarm for a while in the middle of the first half as the teams took their time studying each other's weak and strong points. Peace Makers’ much awaited goal came in the 36th minute. Rudzani Mmbengeni scored with a volley from an awkward angle.
The second half saw United City invade Peace Makers’ territory for the better part, but it was difficult for them to find their way through the opponents’ defence. United City strengthened their striking force by replacing Innocent Ramukakati with Nangani Ramukadi in the 67th minute. As part of their time-wasting tactics, Peace Makers held onto the ball for too long and played it out as they pleased.
