The annual Bruzar special schools cricket tournament was won by Fhulufhelo Special School. The tournament catered for secondary and special schools.

The tournament was held at the Makhado cricket grounds last Thursday. The tournament was sponsored to the amount of R16 000. Mr Tshifhiwa Madula, the manager of Bruzar, said that children with disabilities must be given the opportunity to develop their potential. He added that sport can build unity among people and that he was impressed by the manner in which the competition was run. He also indicated that they would continue to sponsor the competition in coming years.

“The support from  schools was amazing and also the talent of the players, which is something that needs to be nurtured,” he said. “We realize that the tournament is growing, and we are willing  to take more teams on board every year,” he added.

The organiser, Mr Eric Ravhura, urged the community not to push disabled people away. "We have this kind of event because we want to show disabled and challenged people that we love and accept them in our houses and community." He urged parents to stop abusing these people and to stop using them as sources of income. He said that disability grants should be used in the way they were intended.

Fhulufhelo Special School was crowned as the champions for special schools and the team received R2 500, gold medals and a floating trophy. The runners-up, Grace of Love Special School, received R1 500 and silver medals and Tshilwavhusiku Special School received R750 and bronze medals.

Kutama High won the division for mainstream schools and received gold medals. Swobani finished second and Sinthumule third. They received similar prizes as the division for special schools.
