New direction for local refereeing structure

According to the referees' inspector, Mr Ephraim Singo, they should have implemented this a long time ago, but it had been impossible, as there were few referees who had the competency to officiate at that level. In a bid to equip the club officials and players with the knowledge pertaining to refereeing and players guidance, the local refereeing structure will soon start with a roadshow. According to Singo, the lectures will be conducted at various schools throughout the region.
He appealed to the ladies to join refereeing as a career, saying that there is an acute need for female referees in the region. He stated that this has been influenced by the recent establishment of the Vodacom Provincial Ladies Soccer League.
He further stated that ladies who are interested in joining refereeing as a career, should be aged between 14 and 25. Mr Singo stated that the grading of referees will be done in a few weeks' time. He appealed to the new referees to affiliate with SAFA through their respective districts.
He reiterated the fact that they will not tolerate ill-disciplined referees this season. He severely criticized the recent incident where a referee, Mr Bongani Manganyi, was seriously assaulted during a Benjies KO competition match between Mudaswali United Brothers and Agric Dam FC.
