The police at Waterval have arrested a 23-year-old man, Samuel Madzivhani, on a charge of murder.

It is alleged that he stabbed and killed his brother, Collen (21), to death at his home at Valdezia last Saturday night.

According to a police report, Collen Madzivhanani was coming from a nearby tavern when he found his brother asleep. "The incident occurred at 00:30 and it is suspected that he started provoking his elder brother, Samuel, accusing him of eating his food," said the spokesperson for the police, WO Kedibone Mabatha.

It is alleged that the elder brother then took a sharp object and stabbed his younger brother in the neck. He died from his injuries.

"Members of the Community Policing Forum contacted the police for assistance. Although the police responded very quickly, when we arrived on the scene, the victim had already died," Mabatha said.

According to Mabatha, a case of murder has been opened. The suspect briefly appeared in the Waterval Regional Court earlier this week and the case was postponed to November 15.

According to Mabatha, the two stayed together in the village.
