Nine suspects arrested in murder cases

MOPANI – The police in Mopani have arrested nine suspects and charged them with murder, following incidents that took place in the area over the past weekend.

In the first incident, a resident of Shihoko Village in the Letsitele area, Mr Michael Mathebula (28), was shot and killed at his home on Saturday night. The police have arrested two young men in connection with the incident.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, another incident took place at the Lulekani Township on Sunday night. The deceased, Thomas Ngobeni (33), was stabbed to death by a 15-year-old boy during the incident. The killing came after the suspect and the deceased had allegedly been engaged in an argument. The reason for the argument could not be established. The suspect was arrested at the scene, moments after the incident.

A 35-year-old man, Elias Coach Ndubane, was stabbed to death at the Crossroads Village on Saturday night. The deceased was, according to the police statement, on his way home from a local drinking spree when the incident took place. The police have arrested six suspects in connection with the incident. All the suspects were still to appear in court at the time of going to press.
