Suspected poachers in court

On 28 February, the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court postponed the case against four men, who were arrested in connection with an alleged planned rhino hunt at a farm in the Waterpoort area.

Mushimi Musiamo (29), Albert Mawela (34), Richard Misili (40) and Edmond Ramukgopa (37) appeared in court and their case was postponed to 5 April, pending further investigations.

The four men were arrested on 13 January during a joint operation by members of the Crime Intelligence, Organised Crime and Tactical Response Unit. The police's provincial spokesperson, Lt Col Ronél Otto, has since said that the police had acted on a tip-off when they arrested the suspects.

All four men are out on R5 000 bail. According to the court's bail conditions, they are required to report to the nearest police station between 07:00 and 19:00 on Fridays. Furthermore, they cannot leave the province without the approval of the investigating officer.

Mr Desmond Mphaphuli appeared on behalf of the four men.
