Univen official killed in motorcycle accident

Univen principal Prof Peter Mbati has expressed his shock about the death of Dr Nanga Lidovho, who was killed in a motorbike accident. Lidovho was a legal advisor of the principal and member of the university’s management.

He died last Wednesday. This is not the first time that a university staff member was killed in a motorbike accident. In 2011, lecturer Peter Tshifhango also died in a motorbike-related accident.

The accidents have ignited an outcry from the community, with many saying motorbikes should be banned as they are claiming many precious lives in the community.

Mbati eulogised the dead man as one of the great minds of the university. “Dr Lidovho was a cherished and esteemed member of the university management, contributing more than 20 years of professional life to educating generations. I enjoyed working with him immensely and I feel fortunate to have had him as a colleague and friend.”

He was appointed as deputy dean and head of department of adjectival criminal law and clinical legal studies in the School of Law at the University of Venda between 1994 and 1995. During the same period, he was also appointed acting dean in the School of Law.

He was appointed as the Legal Advisor to the vice-chancellor and principal in 1995, a position he occupied until he met his death. Lidovho was in possession of a number of qualifications, which included a PhD from the University of Pretoria and other post-graduate qualifications from local and overseas universities.
