“Root out all corrupt referees”

Prize money totaling R96 100 was distributed among the 52 teams campaigning under the banner of the Mutale Local Football Association during the association’s prize-giving ceremony at the Thondoni Lodge in Mutale last Saturday.

The overall champions, Mulodi Young Santos, received R6 300 and a floating trophy. Tshixwadza Brazilians (2nd), took home R5 300.  Tshiungani Young Stars (3rd) and Lamvi FC (4th), each received  R4 800.

During the ceremony, it was announced that teams that finished their league programmes on top of their respective streams would be promoted to the SAB League next season.

The prize-giving ceremony was also done in conjunction with the official launching of the league sponsor. Mr Moudy Mudzielwana, managing director of sponsoring company Tshikovha Environmental and Communication Consulting, appealed to the association to root out all corrupt referees if they were serious about developing football at grassroots level. He said that it was imperative for the league to improve their financial administration skills, saying no donor would like to associate himself with an institution whose financial administration was not sound.

Mudzielwana presented a cheque of R128 000 to the chairman of the association, Mr Ntodeni Mulovhedzi.

The executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, praised Mudzielwana for channeling part of his company’s income towards football development. He appealed to the club's officials to work hard towards producing players who will feature in the various national teams.

The association’s best referee, Mr Aaron Ndou, was recognized for his outstanding performance last season and he received R1 000 for his achievement.
