State funeral for dedicated member of the Air Force

A member of the South African Air Force, Sgt Ndaedzo Muvhenzhe, was laid to rest over the weekend.

Muvhenzhe (33), the husband of Daily Sun staffer Kamogelo Muvhenzhe of Ha-Mavhunga in the Nzhelele area, fell ill a fortnight ago and rushed himself to a local hospital, where he later died.

In honour of his dedication to his work as a soldier, members of the defence force came in their numbers to bid him farewell. A large group of friends, community members and relatives filled a tent that was erected at the yard adjacent yard to the United African Apostolic Church's headquarters at Ha-Mavhunga, where the funeral service was held.

The funeral followed a memorial service held at his base in Hoedspruit last week.

The beating of Zionist drums characterized the funeral service before he was buried at the local Mavhunga cemetery. Paying homage to the soldier, Capt Jeffrey Selowa described Muvhenzhe as a valued member of the South African Air Force. “He was a disciplined member of the air force, who contributed immensely to the air force in many ways. We enjoyed working with him and we will remember him for his ever-smiling face and the desire to learn every day,” Selowa added.

Chief Samuel Netshiavha said the death of young people was becoming a source of concern in the community. “Who will bury the elderly people when they die as the young ones are the ones who are dying these days? Death takes those we love most and this affects us negatively, emotionally and financially, as those who die are mostly breadwinners,” he said.

The deceased’s wife, Kamogelo, said death had dealt the whole family a terrible blow. "Just last December we had a white wedding, and three months ago we were blessed with a baby daughter. We were in the completing stages of our dream house. As things were starting to shape up, death snatched him from us. We are greatly saddened and we will always remember him," she said.
