Taxi owner gunned down

 
MOPANI – The police in Mopani are investigating a case of murder following the death of a well-known taxi owner, Mr Phineas Maswanganyi (58) of Mhingaville settlement. The incident occurred at the deceased’s home at Mhingaville in the Saselemani area late Saturday night.

According to Capt Maano Sadiki of the SAPS in the Mopane area, Mr Maswangayi diagnosed a mechanical problem on his minibus taxi while he on his way home that evening. On arrival at his Mhingaville RDP house, Maswanganyi decided to attend to the problem on the vehicle before going to bed.

While he was lying underneath the vehicle, busy attending to the problem, two men emerged from the darkness. One of them allegedly called him by name. Before he could respond to the call, the other man produced a firearm and shot him in the head and chest.

He died instantly. The men disappeared in the nearby bushes after the ordeal. No arrest had been made at the time of going to press and the motive for the killing was also not known. The police have appealed to anyone who has information relating to the case to phone them at Tel 0860010111.
