Awkward hurdle for Black Leopards in Telkom

Sport  Date: 10 November 2006

The draw for the quarterfinal stage of the Telkom KO Competition was held at the Wanderers Hotel in Johannesburg on Monday. The so-called big guns, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows have been favoured by the draw.

They will not play against each other in this stage of the competition.

Three matches will be played next weekend while the last one will be played on Wednesday, November 22. Black Leopards were not favoured by the draw. Apart from the fact that they will be playing away from home, the team they will be playing is not easy to beat. Lidoda Duvha will meet Mamelodi Sundowns at the Super Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday, November 18, in what promises to be a thriller. Tshifhiwa Thidiela, the Leopards brand manager, said that Sundowns will pay for the embarrassment they brought to the Leopards’ camp when they crushed them 3-0 at the same venue two weeks ago.

He further said that Sundonws should ask their neighbors, Supersport United, if they want to know how dangerous Leopards are. Leopards beat Supersport United 2-1 at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday. Both Leopards’ goals were scored by Rudzani Ramudzuli.

The Thohoyandou outfit will give Sundowns a tough time if their coach, Mr Mlungisi Ngubane, takes the option of starting with last Saturday’s first eleven.

The other match that will be played on the same day will be between Orlando Pirates and Santos. It will be played at the Johannesburg Stadium, starting at 20:00.

Silver Stars will host Kaizer Chiefs at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the North West on Sunday, November 19. The only match that will be played midweek will be between Ajax Cape Town and Moroka Swallows. It will be played at the Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town.
