MUSINA – A wide awake off-duty policeman last week arrested a suspect here with presumably stolen property to the value of some R4 000.
The policeman, Inspector Mbedzi of the SAPS in Musina, saw the suspect carrying a box with the brand new cylinder kit of a truck at Matshivha’s business complex. When confronted, the suspect alleged that his brother, who is at Matswale Location, had bought it by mistake for his sedan vehicle, and had given it to him to sell.
Inspector Mbedzi contacted the police on his cellphone and requested them to go to the suspect’s brother’s house in Matswale Location. The suspect then immediately changed his story and said that his brother is in fact in Johannesburg.
Inspector Mbedzi, with the aid of Mr Gift Mashaba of SARS, then took the suspect and the property for detention to the offices of the SARS, Musina.
The suspect, Briggs Mudau (35), was detained in the police cells at Musina and appeared in court on Monday. He was granted R1000 bail, but did not pay. He is to remain in custody until 22 February.
