Floating trophy for Langutani Blue Birds

THOHOYANDOU – After several months of waiting, the Solly's Discount World Soccer League prizes for the previous season were finally dished out during a ceremony that was held at the former Venda Parliamentary Chambers on Sunday.

Cash prizes to the tune of R145 000 were given to the 74 teams campaigning under the banner of the Solly's League last season. The overall winners, Langutani Blue Birds, were given a cheque amounting to R10 000 and a floating trophy during the ceremony.

Lutomboni Fire Boys obtained the second position during the Champ of Champs round robin matches that were played three months ago. They were given an amount of R7000 for their achievement. Teams that obtained the third, fourth and fifth positions during the Champ of Champs matches, BMS Finance Peace Makers, the defunct Captain XI and Abino All Stars, took home R6000, R5500 and R5000 respectively.

Teams that took the second position in each of the five streams became R3500 richer during the ceremony. The next six teams on the log were given prizes ranging from R3000 down to R1250, while the remaining teams received consolation prizes to the value of R1000 each. During the ceremony it was also announced that the winners from each of the five streams, Langutani Blue Birds, Lutomboni Fire Boys, BMS Finance Peace Makers, Captain XI Football Club and Abino All Stars have been promoted to the Castle Regional League.
