More explosive finding its way to SA

The Limpopo Police have announced that more people who allegedly tried to smuggle explosives into South Africa at the Beit Bridge border post have been arrested.

According to provincial police spokesperson Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, the police received a tip-off that explosives would be brought through the border during the past weekend. Late Friday evening (8th) a passenger vehicle, carrying 13 passengers, was searched by a waiting police task team. Hidden beneath a panel of the vehicle, the police found the explosives. “Upon searching the vehicle, we found it loaded with 12 detonators and 12 cartridges,” said Mulaudzi in a press release.

The driver of the vehicle and his 13 passengers were detained by the Musina SAPS. All of them were coming from Zimbabwe to South Africa.

Seven of the suspects, upon further questioning, could not be linked to the case and were later released. The driver and the six remaining passengers were, however, charged with the smuggling and possession of explosives. They all appeared in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
