Man dies after falling into a well

A 67-year-old man from Dite Village in Chief Matibe´s area outside Beit Bridge, Mr Enos Kau Nguluvhe, died after falling into a well, police have said.

Local police spokesperson, Chief Supt Lawrence Chinhengo, said the incident occurred on Friday at around 15:00 at Chief Matibe´s area. Nguluvhe had just finished fixing a community borehole and some villagers were now assisting him to get out of the well using a rope, which had been tied around his waist. However, it appears that, in the process, the rope broke, resulting in Nguluvhe´s falling into well and drowning,” he said.

Chinhengo said the body was retrieved by local villagers two days later and was in a decomposed state. The body was taken to Beit Bridge District Hospital mortuary and a post-mortem was waived as police suspected no foul play.

Recently, another 33-year-old villager from neighbouring Mukwazi Ranch outside Beit Bridge died after he was trapped for 45 minutes in a well that had caved in as he tried to fetch water.
