Univen and Royal Council “need each other”

 

A delegation of the University of Venda, led by Vice-Chancellor Peter Mbati, visited King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana at the royal residence in Dzanani last Thursday.

The purpose of the meeting was to cement the existing partnership between Univen and the Ramabulana royal and traditional councils and to express the university’s appreciation to the king for his support in the developmental trajectory of the university.

Mbati acknowledged the role that the king’s late father, Khosikhulu PR Mphephu, in the establishment of Univen. He urged the royal family to work with the university regarding research and to assist in leveraging investment opportunities for the development of the university and the entire area.

“I value the role that the university is playing in educating our nation,” Mphephu Ramabulana said. He reiterated that he was honoured by the university’s visit to the royal family and commended the university for its good work, particularly the provision of quality education. He undertook to bring mining companies and the university together for the purpose of effectively using available mineral resources.

“We need each other,” said Mphephu. He indicated that the university should play a vital role in social development since the majority of students that are registered with the university come from this area.
