News  Date: 21 March 2012

Eskom in Vhembe is urging the community to report illegal connection of electricity and copper theft.

Spokesperson Thiofhi Ratshitanga said it was important for the community to report  these illegal activities as they affected service delivery.

Addressing the community at Madifha, as part of Eskom's public awareness campaign, Ratshitanga said that illegal connections could cause the death of innocent people. "It also causes unnecessary overloading," he added.

According to him, copper theft also causes unnecessary power shortages. "It is not good for our image as we cannot replace the stolen items immediately, due to budget constraints".

Ratshitanga warned that one can be arrested and prosecuted for illegal connections and copper theft.

He hailed the community for reporting such illegal activities and urged them to continue doing so.
