Ms Thanyani Nemavhulani wants to help girls prepare for their matric dance.

Local model to help girls to prepare for matric dance

All across the country, excitement is building for the annual matric farewell functions, but this glamorous night can be very frustrating if a learner doesn't have any budget at all and little knowledge on how to prepare for such a function.

A local model, Ms Thanyani Nemavhulani (22), is willing to assist girls in the region and help them prepare for the event. Thanyani, who hails from Ha-Rabali in Nzhelele, said her project would specifically focus on Grade 12 girls coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, so they too can afford the best night ever.  "I've gone through that pain of not attending a matric dance, and I believe that my project will create awareness for matric girls, irrespective of their background,” she said.

This BSc degree student at the University of South Africa and a model from Limpopo Beauty Academy has no fond memories of her matric dance, but she believes that, with the assistance of the community, things can be different for many other girls. She also appealed to ladies who can donate dresses and shoes to contact her.

Thanyani needs more than 50 dresses from donors to give to needy pupils. So far, she has already acquired a make-up artist, but she also needs shoes for the girls. “I have already acquired some of the items, but if there are people who are willing to help, they can contact me,” she said.

Nemavhulani can be contacted on 071 277 5525.
