Four lifetime achievement awards during Tshima

In one of the highlights of the Phalaphala FM Tshivenda Music Awards (Tshima) ceremony, lifetime achiever awards were presented to Irene Mawela, Dan Tshanda, Paul Mulaudzi and the late Mr Christopher Mukwevho. Mukwevho is the founder-member of the now-defunct group, Thrilling Artists.

The event took place in the Thohoyandou Town Hall on Saturday evening.

One of the oldest Venda traditional music bands, Adziambei Band, received the Song of the Year award for Nwana o ngalangala. Although the album in which Nwana o ngalangala features was released more than a year ago, the demand for the album is still growing.

The band was presented with a cash prize of R10 000, a Vodacom Internet connection kit to the value of R10 000 and a trophy.

The best Tshivenda Gospel award was presented to Mr Lufuno Dagada, while well-known local reggae music icon Colbert Mukwevho took home the best reggae music award. Joseph Mbiza, or Zozo as he is widely known, was the winner in the best tshingondo music category.

Naledzani Netshirembe was presented with the Best Tshivenda Traditional Music award, while Mizo won the Best Tshivenda Hip-hop Music award.

The highly talented Malondolo and Mrs David Mmbi won the best Tshivenda Afropop and the Newcomer of the Year awards respectively.

All the winners in the various categories were presented with cash prizes of R10 000 and trophies.

In his welcome remarks, the station manager of Phalaphala FM, Mr Freddy Sadiki, said that the awards would be held every year. A representative from Vodacom South Africa, Mr Steven Lukhwa, stated that his company would continue to sponsor the awards in the years to come.

Some of the sponsors for the event include Vodacom SA and Khoroni Hotel and Casino.
