Local model agency brings glamour to district

“We will keep our young girls busy and keep them off the streets and the cars they climb into every day.”

The 24-year-old Makhado-based Lawrence 'Lolo' Lulama, who has started a modeling agency as an answer to a lack of exposure and belonging for aspirant models in Vhembe District, made this positive statement on Tuesday.

Glamour Modeling Agency was formed recently with the purpose of giving young girls an opportunity to find themselves in terms of self-discipline and self-control.

“We built this agency to show our young girls that there's more to life than sex, consuming alcohol, smoking and partying,” Lulama said. “It's our feeling that they must engage themselves in something that will benefit them in a way – not ruin their lives!”

He said that it was high time that local girls, through this agency, got opportunities to pose for brands which used the print media and online media for advertising their new products, such as clothes, cosmetics and domestic appliances.

“We hope that this agency will go places and get to be financially viable,” he said. “Once we have started generating some money, we will also focus on charitable works. We are most touched by the issue of cancer among our girls and women, and we feel it is our responsibility to do our bit in terms of cancer awareness projects.”

Lulama called upon all interested businesses to consider sponsoring the agency in one way or another. The agency also needs sponsorship in the form of space where models can hold meetings and do training. “Our district is rich in talent as this is also evident in the potential of our youth,” he said.

He pointed out that there is a lack of modeling agencies in the district, where models can belong and feel at home while pursuing their modeling dreams. “We've just discovered that void and decided to fill it, so that people from all over the country can start respecting us for our efforts and hard work,” he said. “We are ready for anything that comes our way.”

Some of the models already signed with Glamour Modeling Agency include Sandra Muluvhu (18), Mukovhe Liphadzi (16), Poppy Muvhulawa (17) and Hulisani Marole (18).

Poppy Muvhulawa said: “As a model, I am happy to belong to Glamour. I am grateful. It's most exciting to model, particularly when it's one's passion.”
