Rewards for the best of Sidou Peace Makers

One of the affiliates for the Thulamela Local Football Association, Sidou Peace Makers, recently celebrated the team’s achievements during a ceremony at the Sidou Conference Centre. Several players and officials were given awards for their outstanding performance and commitment in the past season.

Khathutshelo Mmbengwa received the awards for player of the season and top goal scorer. He scored 22 goals in the 30 league matches the team played. The players’ player of the season award went to Wanga Khorommbi. Shumani Ramaliwa was the recipient of the most awesome goal scorer award and Tshifhiwa Nephawe received the young player of the season award. Wanga Mudau was the most disciplined player of the season, while Mukovhe Madzikiti is the player with the most skills. The team’s coach, Mr Musiiwa Tshifaro, and his assistant, Mr Lufuluvhi Mamidze, received the chairman’s award.

During the ceremony, the team’s head coach, Mr Musiiwa Tshifaro, said that most of the players they had registered the previous season were ill-disciplined. He indicated that although they had registered 28 players, it was rare to have more than 13 players available for a match.

The team finished the season in the fifth position. According to Tshifaro, they could have ended in the third spot, had it not been for the fact that they had forfeited a number of points to their opponents through protests. He also mentioned that the team did not stop training after their last league match.

Mr Tshifaro further said that they had achieved all that, despite the fact that the team did not have a sponsor. During the ceremony, the chairman of the club, Mr Maseakhole Sithali, appealed to local businessmen to support the team.
