Double life sentence for child rapist

THOHOYANDOU – Nnditsheni Thomas Netshiendeulu (28), a resident of Lwamondo village, will spend the remaining part of his life in jail after he was found guilty in the Venda Provincial Division of the High Court of South Africa last Thursday on two counts of rape.

The incident relating to the case occurred at Lwamondo Village on January 16, last year. The court heard that, on the day of the incident, the accused proceeded to his sister’s kraal. His sister was not at home at that time but only her two daughters aged 12 and 6 were.

The girls were playing in a mealie field when the accused arrived. The court further heard that, on arrival, the accused called the two girls. When they got closer to him, he grabbed the eldest one and raped her after threatening to kill her if she made any noise.

The younger sister managed to escape and climbed a nearby tree. She watched helplessly as the accused was raping her sister. After raping the elder sister, the accused called the little girl who was hiding in the tree. He then raped her in full view of her elder sister. Although the girls’ mother came back later that evening, she didn’t notice anything until the following morning, when she saw some clots on her 12-year-old daughter’s underwear. When she questioned her, the girl told the mother that she and her younger sister had been raped by her uncle the previous day.

That led to the arrest of Netshiendeulu a few days later.

Netshiendeulu was found guilty on two counts of rape. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the two counts. Judge Prinsloo was the presiding officer in the case while Adv Ratshilumela Johannes Makhera prosecuted and Adv Lucky Thomu represented Netshiendeulu.
